Exploring The Hong Kong Streets

Exploring The Hong Kong Streets

People usually go to Hong Kong to shop and enjoy the theme parks. I cant blame them, everyone wants to experience disneyland. While theme parks are fun, I didn’t like the city very much when I was first there, five years ago. I wasn’t too impressed with what I saw in Hong Kong streets. Everything was too much for me. Too much filthy, chaotic streets, too much old run down buildings, too much crowd and too much neon lights. This was all at the time before I learned how to truly travel.

Being a traveler is all about having the right mindset. It doesn’t matter whether you stay at cheap hostels or posh hotels, it’s not about carrying a suitcase versus carrying a backpack, its not about being in an exotic location rather than in a modern urban city. A true traveler will always have a child like wonder no matter where they go. They choose to see the beauty in everything. They know how to appreciate all the good and the bad and they’re always willing to learn.

Streets of Hong Kong

I had the chance to visit Hong Kong again late last year. I didn’t expect that this time, I would actually fall in love with this modern city. I had a different set of eyes back then. Now, I see beauty in its crowded, chaotic streets. I see charm in all these old run down buildings. I made sure that I get to discover the Hong Kong streets outside of its theme parks and fancy shops. I realized how charming and underrated this city is.

I also enjoyed the food very much even when there’s long crazy queue. I remembered one night when we found an unassuming noodle house at a dark alleyway in the streets of hong kong. It was more of a street side noodle shop. It has no name or maybe I really just cant remember the name because it was in Chinese. It wasn’t very hygienic, but sometimes I just close my eyes and embrace everything when I’m in a different country. We didn’t know what to order or how to order, but it turned out to be the best noodle I ever had.

Hong Kong streets will never run out of interesting things. It’s a street photographer’s haven. There’s so much opportunity in this city to be creative. I honestly wish I can stay longer just to take more photos and eat. The next time you’re in this city, please take time to get to know the Hong Kong streets. You’ll be charmed, I promise.

I have just returned from Hong Kong and Macau. There are tons of photos on my blog. I recognize one of the alleys with tables and seating.
